Tong Kee Food Corporation 棠记饼家

A few weeks ago, I have posted up the egg tarts from Tong Kee. This time, I will like to introduce more about this shop which I am recently addicted to its bakery and also the varieties of pastries.

The one I mostly visit is the Puchong branch. There were lots of customers especially during weekends.

Their egg tarts are definitely a must to try out and I can say it is probably the best egg tarts that I have ever had around Klang Valley. Other than egg tarts, they do have lots of other nice pastries. You may try out whenever you visit any of the branch.

Puchong Yong Tau Fu at Seri Kembangan, Serdang

A few weeks ago, we decided to try out the famous Puchong Yong Tao Foo at Taman Bukit Serdang as recommended by one of my friend. After work, we drove ourselves to the area for dinner. The restaurant was quite easy to spot considering it is located at the front row facing the road.

After we were seated, there was a menu for us to pick the food of our choice and if you wanted to know the price of each item, it is actually on the board placed behind the counter.

After choosing our items, we waited for the food to be served. It doesn't take long as there was not much customers. Perhaps it was already getting late. Anyway, we ordered a few items which include soup based and also the fried ones.

Soup Based Yong Tau Fu

Fried Yong Tau Fu

 Fried Vegetables

 Rendang Chicken

The soup based Yong Tau Fu is actually nicer then those fried ones. For me, I felt that the fried stuffs are just too oily and dry. The rendang chicken is not bad too but the price is quite expensive for just a piece of drumstick. Overall, the food is nice and I might consider going back to the shop to try out some other items.

Pescados Fishermans at Portugese Settlement Malacca

Dinner was somehow a bit hard to decided when we were in Malacca as there were too many choices. Finally, we decided to visit the Portugese Settlement and settle our dinner there. There are a whole row of restaurants to choose from and somehow its really annoying when each worker from different restaurant approached you and asking us to try out their food.

We had a hard time deciding and finally we just made our choice on the Pescados Fishermans restaurant.

We ordered a few dishes which includes:

Butter Chicken

Fried Kai Lan

Grilled Fish

 Otak Otak

I personally loved the Grill Fish as it was one of the best grilled fish I had tasted so far and the fish is fresh. The Butter Chicken was good too but the Fried Kai Lan was a bit too salty. The otak-otak which I ordered from the small stall beside the restaurant was just moderate and it tasted just like any normal otak-otak being sold. As a conclusion, it was a great dinner and we definitely choose the correct restaurant. For those who wanted to go try out, I will recommend the Grill Fish.

Nadeje Cafe at Dataran Pahlawan, Malacca

I have been eager to try out the mille crepe at the famous Nadeje in Malacca so we made our way to one of the branch which is at Dataran Pahlawan. When we reached there, as expected it was crowded with customers.

The crowded Nadeje

As there was no more tables for us to dine in, we decided to take away the mille crepes. So we bought 4 different flavours to try out.

 Original

 Chocolate Banana

 Milk Tea

Cappucino Choco

Overall, I would prefer the original flavour as the rest are just too sweet and creamy. In my opinion, I think Mille Crepe is best taken in its original flavour which is usually the vanilla. Nadeje is still worth a visit for its varieties of Mille Crepe and customers has certainly had a lot to choose from and the price is cheaper at RM8.50 per piece compare to the ones sold in Petaling Jaya. I will make a review next time on the Mille Crepe in Petaling Jaya when I had the chance so stay tune.

Chicken Rice Ball at Huang Chang Restaurant

Well, after the Dim Sum at Man Ting Siang , we continue our search for food and we decided to tried out the famous chicken rice ball at Huang Chang Restaurant.

Unlike the other similar restaurant, this is not crowded with tourist and most of the patronist were all the local malaccans. Once again, we were lucky enough to get the last table inside the restaurant. As expected, it was really crowded. I was quite surprised because it was still early in the morning around 10-11am and there were already lots of people eating the chicken rice.

As usual, we took our orders from the waitress and waited. It took some time before our order came as there were really lots of customers.

Chicken Rice Balls

Braised Chicken

There were only one choice of chicken which is the braised chicken and unlike the other restaurants, it does not serve other varieties such as roasted chicken or 'Char Siew' (BBQ Pork). We had a taste of the chicken rice ball and I noticed that it was hand made and not by the machine by looking at the different shapes of the balls. The braised chicken meat was also very soft and smooth. Overall, the food is really nice and that proves the crowds of locals who entered the shop non stop.

Dim Sum at Man Ting Siang

It was early in the morning in Melaka when we decided to hunt for some good dim sum there. Well, I surfed some blogs and saw a recommendation for this place so 3 of us decided to go and try out this place. When we reached there, it was obviously crowded by people and we were lucky enough to get the last table at the last corner outside of the shop.

When we were seated on the table, a lady came with a tray of dim sum. She took our order of a pot of tea and she just left the whole tray on the table for us to choose and take ourselves the dim sum while she went to take the tea.

My happy friend with the whole tray of dim sum

Anyway, we started taking the usual dim sums that we have seen in any dim sum shop.

This is something special. It was actually sweet and sour fish surrounded by fried yam. It tasted good too.

The usual 'Siew Mai'

Green 'Siew Mai'

'Pai Kuat' (Pork Ribs)

Fish Paste

The tea in the cup

Well, we did order some extras like 'Chee Cheong Fun', 'Har Kao' and 'Lo Mai Kai' (Glutinous Chicken Rice) . We waited for quite some time and we have to repeat our orders a few times and in the end only this came.

'Chee Cheong Fun'

The 'Chee Cheong Fun' consist of prawns and also char siew in it. It definitely tasted good. Overall, the dim sum quality was moderate if compared to the ones in Ipoh and Selangor but the price is definitely much more cheaper in Melaka. So it was really worth it to have a try at this shop. The waiters definitely need to write down the customers orders to prevent from forgetting their orders.

Sweet Chat Cafe Midvalley

This is actually my second visit to Sweet Chat Cafe at Midvalley. My friend was craving for the food there so we decided to make a stop at the cafe.

We made our order as soon as we got our place to seat. Browsing through the menu, there were quite a lot of variety to choose ranging from the main meals to the desserts. I actually just ordered the dessert as I had already eaten while my friend ordered the lunch set.

Pamelo Mango Soup

I ordered the Pamelo Mango Soup as my dessert but it was a bit dissapointing. The mango doesn't look fresh and soup looks too watery. On the other hand, the set lunch that my friend ordered consist of a drink, the main meal and also a dessert.

The drink

Curry Laksa

This is definitely a must to try out. The curry is tasteful enough and its smells nice. They were generous in giving the ingredients too.

 Wan Tan

I certainly loved the wan tan. Wrapped inside is a medium sized prawn.

Glutinous Ball With Peanut

Last but not least was the Glutinous Ball which is wrapped around with peanut. There were 2 different flavours given inside each of the ball which is the black sesame and also the peanut.

Overall, the food was quite good and I will like to try out some of the other items in their menu but they certainly need to improve their dessert quality.

Egg Tarts at Canton-I And Tong Kee

Recently I went for a hunt for egg tarts around KL and Selangor area and I decided to try this 2 place as recommended by my friends. The first one was the egg tart from Canton-I located at The Gardens Midvalley.

The egg tart from Canton-I is really crispy and the texture is soft. Canton-I egg tarts are similar to the ones sold at Hong Kong.

On the same day itself, I went to try out a different egg tart at a famous outlet in Bandar Puchong Jaya. Tong Kee is famous for its egg tarts and also some other bakeries items. The outlet is just opposite the IOI Boulevard and it is quite easy to spot.

I tried out the butter egg tarts and the taste is totally different from the ones at Canton-I. The texture and the shape is also different. The taste is sweeter and its bigger in size.

Each of this egg tart has its own specialty in taste and it depends on the individual. Comparing both of this, I would say I prefer the ones from Tong Kee as the taste is better and cheaper.

Kissaten - Coffee And Restaurant

Last weekend, my friends and I went to IOI Boulevard at Bandar Puchong Jaya for dinner.

We decided to try out Kissaten. It is basically a Japanese Fusion restaurant which offers a wide variety of food with the combination of western and japanese.

The interior was quite nice and warm and it is definitely a suitable place to hang out with friends and family.

Well, since there were only 3 of us, we decided to call only 3 dishes of course since all of us were not really that hungry. Anyway we proceed with the order and the preparation of the food was quite fast despite the crowd.

Unagi Don

Ramen with Pork

Olio Pasta

The Unagi Don and the Ramen was nice but I think that the Olio Pasta was a bit overpriced. The portion is quite small and it has not much ingredients. Overall, the food quality that we had ordered was quite moderate but it is still definitely a great place to have dinner with lots of variety to choose from the menu.
